VLC Attends UNC Team Camp

Jacksonville Beach, FL- Villages Lacrosse Club is pleased to announce our attendance at the 2019 UNC Team Camp! We were thrilled to be welcomed to the campus at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill to compete against teams from all over the country! Below are some more details on what made this such a special event for our program:

UNC Team Camp

Team Bonding

We were fortunate to have 23 individuals attend camp with us. These student-athletes traveled together. Additionally, they roomed together at Morrison Hall on the historic campus of UNC. The boys were able to share meals together, get ready for competition, and really, spend a lot of quality time together throughout the week. Above lacrosse, this is the main reason we wanted to attend camp, to give the boys an opportunity to better get to know one another. Enjoy the moment and have fun!

Competition

We believe the purpose for the club summer season is improvement. UNC Team Camp offered our team the best competition we have ever seen at the club level. We were matched up against teams from Texas, New Jersey, Maryland, Florida, and Virginia. All over the United States! Competition breeds improvement and we hope to see our team get better from what they have seen. The club season is an opportunity to try new things, experiment, and above all, be open to coaching. Our main mission is to worry about what we can control and that is our effort, attitude, and communication. We are looking to be the best team WE can be!

Facilities and Coaching

UNC Chapel Hill is an amazing campus. We were very fortunate to experience a plethora of top-notch facilities including Shelton Field (Field Hockey), Navy Field (Football and Lacrosse), and Hooker Field (Multi-Purpose). In addition, our coaches were able to attend an X’s and O’s session at the UNC Lacrosse Facility. Every one of these facilities was first class in how it was prepared, maintained, and cared for. We feel very fortunate that we were able to experience all that goes into a first class Division I experience!

In addition to the first class facilities, our boys were exposed to some of the best coaches in the country. We were privileged to have not only the host school and 2016 National Champion, UNC, coach up our team in the first session, but also, 2019 National Champion, Virginia, joined them. Two of the true blue bloods in our sport teaching our student-athletes in the fundamentals of lacrosse. We are always looking for ways to improve and it was amazing to have this type of leadership! In our second practice session, we were able to have 2017 National Champion, Limestone, coach our individuals for the duration of the practice. Attention to detail, stick skills, fast pace, and making plays were all stressed! We feel very fortunate to have these men teach our team. Thank you! Finally, they were joined by over 37 more schools who were present in evaluating student-athletes. Truly a remarkable event. We will be back!
